1-Year Full-Time Residential Programme
Pathway to Obtain B.Sc. Nautical Science Degree
The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) Programme is designed for students aspiring to build a successful career as Deck Officers in the Merchant Navy and progress towards becoming a Captain / Master Mariner.
The programme combines academic learning, practical maritime training, navigation knowledge, seamanship, cargo handling, ship operations, and safety procedures in accordance with international maritime standards. The one-year course consists of two semesters.
Upon successful completion of the programme, cadets are awarded the Diploma in Nautical Science and become eligible to join merchant vessels as Deck Cadets. During onboard training, cadets gain valuable sea experience and practical exposure essential for professional competency development.
After completion of the required sea service and competency training, candidates become eligible to appear for the Second Mate Examination, leading to promotion as Second Officer. With additional sea experience, competency examinations, and operational expertise, officers can steadily progress to Chief Officer and eventually become Captain / Master Mariner.
The DNS Programme also provides an opportunity to obtain a B.Sc. Nautical Science Degree through the Distance Learning Programme (DLP) during the sea training period. Guidance and placement assistance are provided to deserving and meritorious students for building a successful maritime career.

| Eligibility | Pass in HSC / 10+2 from a Recognized Board with Minimum 60% Aggregate in PCM (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics). Candidates with B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Electronics with Physics as an individual subject and minimum 55% marks in the final year are also eligible. BE / B.Tech graduates may also apply. Minimum 50% Marks in English either in 10th or 12th Standard. |
| Age Limit | Maximum 25 Years. Relaxation up to 30 Years for SC/ST Candidates and 28 Years for OBC Candidates. |
| Vision Standards | No Color Blindness. 6/6 Vision in each eye is mandatory. Spectacles are not permitted. |
| Competency Eligibility | Candidates scoring 60% and above in PCM in 10+2 are eligible to appear for the Second Mate Competency Examination as per applicable maritime training regulations. |
