The Marine Fitter Course is a pre-sea training programme designed for candidates aspiring to build a career in the Engine Department of the Merchant Navy as a skilled technical crew member.
The programme provides comprehensive practical and theoretical training in marine engineering workshop practices, engine room maintenance, welding, fitting, machinery overhauling, piping systems, safety procedures, and shipboard engineering operations. Students develop the technical skills required to assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine machinery onboard merchant vessels.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates become eligible to join Indian and foreign-going merchant vessels as Trainee Marine Fitters or Engine Room Ratings, supporting the smooth operation and maintenance of shipboard machinery.
After completion of the course, examinations are conducted by the Board of Examination for Seafarers (BES). Successful candidates become eligible to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.

| Eligibility | Pass in 10th Standard from a Government Recognized Board with Science, Mathematics, and English. Candidates holding ITI (Fitter / Welder / Mechanic or relevant engineering trades) or equivalent technical qualifications may also be eligible as per institute and company requirements. |

| Medical Standards | Medically fit as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules prescribed by DG Shipping. Good eyesight (within prescribed limits), normal hearing, and no colour blindness. |
